We also offer expert wall covering installation, including vinyl, wall fabrics, and wood veneers — ideal for offices, retail, and high-traffic spaces.

After merging with Color Masters Painting in 2016, we expanded our nationwide reach — combining expertise, manpower, and equipment to better serve clients across the country with dependable, high-quality results.

Our History

National Coatings has come a long way, merging with Color Masters Painting in 2016. Learn more about our company’s evolution below.

1996 National Coatings: The Beginning

National Coatings Inc. was founded in June of 1996 by Pat and Jan Burden. Pat Burden had been with Burdco Group, building over 20 years of experience in the painting business. His wife, Jan, had an extensive background as a business manager for several non-profit organizations. When Burdco Group made their painting division available for sale, Pat and Jan decided to combine their painting and business management backgrounds to form the National Coatings.

2003 Color Masters Painting: Humble Beginnings

Color Masters began as a power washing company in 2003. Owner and founder Zeb Hadley started the company by going door-to-door offering power washing services while attending North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. In June of 2003, Zeb began working for general contractors in the Raleigh area. With the expanding housing market, he hired two employees to help him keep up with the ever-increasing workload.

2006 Color Masters Painting: Growing Demand

In March of 2006, Zeb began subcontracting out residential painting jobs for extra income. Within months, the demand for his paint services grew so substantially that he had to hire eight additional employees to take care of the ever-increasing job-load.

2008 Color Masters Painting: Diversification

By 2008, Color Masters Painting was serving hundreds of central NC home-building contractors and residents. When the economy and local housing market began to decline that year, Zeb saw an opportunity to diversify, and he hired a commercial painting estimator to help bring in new types of jobs to remain profitable.

2016 National Coatings: The Merger

Working as sister companies for a number of years, National Coatings and Color Masters Painting mutually decided to merge as one company under the name National Coatings in 2016. With the reputation and capabilities of each company brought together, the team became stronger than ever.

Present National Coatings: Serving Nationwide

With the largest teams in the industry, National Coatings is now able to serve customers nationwide effectively, with office locations strategically placed across a number of states.
